We are dedicated to supporting our business students so financial barriers don't stand
in your way. We award more than $500,000 in scholarships annually to business students.
Below is a list of featured scholarships, each with their own unique set of requirements.

Scianna Business Leadership Program
The Scianna Business Leadership Program (BLP) is a cohort-based program designed to
provide meaningful learning experiences to a select group of promising business students
to build leadership skills and develop a high level of professionalism. Scianna BLP
students gain important insights about their own leadership strengths and weaknesses
and effective leadership practices to learn how to lead themselves, lead others, and
lead organizations. Providing programming around these important areas greatly enhances
participants’ experience in the College of Business & Economic Development and their
future careers. Through activities, events, classroom exercises and discussions, one-on-one
mentorship and coaching, and interactions with business professionals, participants
have opportunities to develop. Admitted students are eligible for a scholarship up
to $2,000 per year.
Russ Willis College of Business and Economic Development Freshman Annual Scholarship
This scholarship is established by Mr. Russ Willis, human resources management professor.
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to an incoming freshmen with an
ACT score of 24 or higher and a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher who has a declared
major within any College of Business and Economic Development disciplines.
First 51 Bank Scholarship Endowment in Memory of Jack Morris and in Honor of
Mattie Morris
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship for a freshman finance major
with a 3.0 minimum high school grade point average. Preference shall be given to a
student from Marion, Lamar, Forrest, Pearl River or Perry County. If no student from
that major or area meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another
qualified student.
Marvin and Willie Maud Early College of Business and Economic Development Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to an incoming freshman student
who is seeking a degree within the College of Business and Economic Development and
has attained a minimum of 22 ACT score. To continue receiving the scholarship, the
student must maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA.
Thomas and Louise Bounds College of Business and Economic Development Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to incoming freshmen seeking a
degree in the College of Business and Economic Development.
Billy Hewes College of Business and Economic Development Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student enrolled in the College
of Business and Economic Development. Preference shall be given to graduates of Gulfport
High School, Harrison Central High School, St. Patrick Catholic High School or Mississippi
Gulf Coast Community College transfers.
EAGLE Scholars Program Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a full-time sophomore, junior,
or senior in any major in the College of Business and Economic Development who has
a minimum 3.0 GPA. Through this exciting scholarship and leadership development program,
EAGLE Scholars receive up to $8,000 per year, the possibility of a study-abroad stipend
or summer school support up to $2,000, and the opportunity to participate in a series
of leadership and professional development programs. Consideration shall be given
in the following order: financial resources, academic record, integrity and commitment
to finishing the degree. This scholarship is eligible for renewal.
Alfreddy Cook Memorial Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to be awarded to a student enrolled
in the hospitality and tourism management degree program who demonstrates financial
need. Preference shall be given to students from Covington, Forrest, George, Hancock,
Harrison, Jackson, Lamar, Perry, Stone, and Warren counties.
College of Business and Economic Development Single Parents Annual Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with a minimum 3.0 GPA in
any major in the College of Business and Economic Development who is a single parent.
Henry E. Terry Business Administration Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in business
administration at the Gulf Park campus.
Joseph F. Boardman, Jr. Excellence in Banking Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in finance.
Preference shall be given to a junior, senior, or graduate student who exhibits outstanding
scholastic achievement as well as civic and community leadership. Preference shall
be given to students from South Mississippi who express a desire to pursue a professional
career in banking in Mississippi.
Krandall Howell College of Business and Economic Development Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student with financial need
in any major in the College of Business and Economic Development who is a member of
the Student Alumni Association. Preference will be given to a student from McComb,
Summit, or Magnolia, Mississippi.
Metropolitan Club College of Business and Economic Development Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a sophomore, junior or senior
with financial need in any major in the College of Business and Economic Development.
Student must be from Forrest or Lamar County, Mississippi, and have a minimum 2.7
GPA.
Steve and Julie Strickland Marketing and Finance Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in marketing
or finance with a minimum 3.0 GPA who is a member in good standing of any fraternity
in the Interfraternity Council. Preference will be given to a member of the Epsilon
Nu Chapter of Kappa Sigma.
George Edwards, Jr. Accounting Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a junior or senior majoring
in accounting with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Jerry G. and Marcia C. McClain Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in accounting
with a minimum 3.2 GPA who is from Amite, Wilkinson, Franklin, or Adams County. If
a student majoring in accounting cannot be identified, the scholarship shall be awarded
to a student in any major in the College of Business and Economic Development with
a minimum 3.2 GPA who is from one of these counties.
James and Carolyn Bourne Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student majoring in accounting.
The student must demonstrate financial need.
Jack Gavin Early Memorial Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in accounting
with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to a veteran or student with financial
need.
Steve and Krisie Brown Accounting Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in accounting
with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Joy Lightsey Accounting Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students majoring in accounting
with a 3.0 GPA who have achieved at least sophomore classification. If no student
from that area meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified
student in the College of Business and Economic Development.
Gordon H. White Banking and Finance Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students majoring in finance
from Forrest or Lauderdale counties with financial need.
Steve and Dianne Garrett Finance Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students majoring in finance
with a minimum 3.0 GPA from Alabama, Hattiesburg, or Petal.
Thomas Brown Memorial Finance Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students majoring in finance
from Forrest, Lamar, Jasper, Jones, or Smith counties.
Marshal Rayburn Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students majoring in finance
majors from Lamar or Forrest counties with financial need.
Maurice Joseph Real Estate Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to a student with an interest
in pursuing a career in real estate.
Warren and June Wild Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students majoring in finance
with a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated high ethical standards and leadership capabilities,
and a preference for students from Pike County, Mississippi, or Tangipahoe Parish,
Louisiana.
Paul McMullan Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students majoring in finance
from Mississippi.
Dorothy Thomsen First Lady in Finance Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in finance.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in finance.
Scott and Alise Davis Finance Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in finance
with a minimum 3.0 GPA who is involved in community volunteer work.
Hattiesburg Area Association of Realtors Scholarship
Students enrolled in a real estate course or planning to pursue a career in real estate
with a preference for students from Forrest, Lamar, Marion, Stone, Perry, or Covington
Counties.
Herschel and Lynn Shattles Endowment
This endowment funds a scholarship to a student majoring in business administration
who is a graduate of Forrest County Agricultural High School, with a preference given
to a freshman. If no graduate from Forrest County Agricultural High School meets the
criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified student from Forrest
or Lamar County who is majoring in business administration.
Human Resources Management Online Annual Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a fully online student (can
be a full or part-time student; captured through the “Online” campus designation at
USM) majoring in human resources management with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference giving
to students new to the program.
LaRay Stringer Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide an annual scholarship to a deserving student
majoring in management with at least a 2.5 GPA and based on financial need.
New South Restaurant Group Hospitality and Tourism Management Annual Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in hospitality
and tourism management with a minimum 2.5 GPA who is working a minimum of 25 hours
per week in an independent local food service job, such as a restaurant, bakery, catering
or event space.
Fuzzy's Taco Shop Hospitality and Tourism Management Annual Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in hospitality
and tourism management.
Alphonso and Bernice Williams Marketing Study Abroad Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a College of Business and Economic Development
study abroad scholarship to a full-time undergraduate student with a minimum 3.0 GPA
who is majoring in marketing.
Richard C. Vreeland Marketing Scholarship Endowment
This scholarship was established by former 51 Miss faculty member, Dr. Richard
C. Vreeland. The purpose of this fund is to award scholarships to students who are
majoring in marketing in the College of Business and Economic Development. This scholarship
fund is typically used to support the vision and mission of the School of Marketing
by funding students doing study abroad, internships, or taking advantage of other
experience-based learning opportunities.
Reed Green Scholarship Endowment - Sport Management
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student majoring in sport
management.
Dr. Dennis Phillips Sport Management Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to any student majoring in sport
management.
Mildred Lindley Williams Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for worthy and needy students
attending The University of 51 Mississippi, who are resident citizens of Mississippi,
with preference being given to majors or students in hospitality and tourism management.
Dolly Loyd Marketing Scholarship Endowment
This scholarship was established by Ms. Dolly Loyd. Ms. Loyd was a 51 Miss Alum,
a beloved 51 Miss instructor of marketing, and an avid supporter of 51
Miss and its students. The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a junior
or senior majoring in marketing. Preference will be given to a student with financial
need and a minimum 2.75 GPA.
Larry K. Gregory Scholarship Endowment
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a junior or senior with a minimum
2.75 GPA who is a resident of Mississippi. The scholarship should be awarded to a
student who has demonstrated interest in casino/resort management. This includes students
who are pursuing a certificate in casino and resort management and marketing, a degree
in hospitality and tourism management who have taken at least one casino management
course, or students in the College of Business and Economic Development students who
are employed in the casino industry.
Julie Cook Sperber Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship for a rising junior or senior
marketing major who is a full-time student with a minimum overall GPA of 3.5 and a
GPA of 3.7 in the marketing curriculum. The student should be well-rounded and active
in campus activities. The student should possess good verbal and writing skill and
prepare a one-page essay describing how he/she meets the criteria.
Dr. Bill Smith Marketing Scholarship
This scholarship was established by retired 51 Miss faculty member, Dr. Bill
Smith. Dr. Smith served as chair of the Department of Economic Development, Tourism
and Sport Management before his retirement. The purpose of this fund is to award a
scholarship to a junior or senior majoring in marketing with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
