Dr. Matt Donahue

Associate Professor

Bio

Hailing from Wisconsin, Dr. Matt Donahue earned tenure in 2019 and was promoted to Associate Professor that same year in Chemistry and Biochemistry. His research group, funded by the NIGMS R15GM129751, investigates strategies for the construction of nitrogen containing heterocycles with emphasis on control of stereochemical relationships. Along with Dr. Julie Pigza, he has established collaborations within USM focused design and synthesis of new heterocycles for probing infectious diseases with Dr. Jacques Kessl (HIV integrase) and Dr. Shahid Karim (tick-borne viruses). He earned his B.S. in Chemistry (Honors) from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside working under the tutelage of Prof. Vera Kolb. He earned his Ph.D. under Prof. David J. Hart from The Ohio State University in 2005 and then spent two years under Prof. Jeffrey N. Johnston at Vanderbilt University doing post-doctoral studies.
