Mass Communication Minor

Mass Communication Minor

Mass Communication students can explore a variety of topics and perspectives related to media, journalism, public relations, and advertising. Classes address writing and multimedia storytelling on multiple platforms, including blogging, online reporting, social media, and video. Students will be exposed to the changing digital environment of media, and ideas like how media environments can both subvert and reinforce hegemonic norms.  

The Mass Communication minor also features electives for media management and economics, digital and social media, photography for journalists, broadcast journalism, audio reporting and podcasting, public relations and advertising research, data and media analytics, gender, race, and media, and a variety of other options.

 

What Will I Learn? 

Students are able to choose from a wide variety of electives across public relations and advertising, as well as broadcast, photo, print, and multimedia journalism, and will learn how to:

  • Understand media and media literacy
  • Understand mass communication organizations
  • Write for media
  • Produce digital multimedia content, including photos, video, and sound
