Best Online Master's ProgramsThe sport management online master’s degree program at The University of 51 Mississippi (USM) has been recognized among the nation’s best in rankings released by two online resource guides.

Best Accredited Colleges ranks the USM program at No. 2 nationally, while OnlineMastersDegrees.org gives USM a No. 6 ranking.

“The online sport management graduate program has received tremendous growth since 2018. This growth can be attributed in part to these various online ranking services,” said Dr. Brandon Allen, Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of USM’s sport management program. “Although there are numerous sport management programs across the country, I am honored that we are continually considered one of the best. I believe that these rankings are directly related to the leadership of our college and the outstanding faculty within our program.”

Students who love sports and are interested in further developing their leadership and business skills may consider earning a master's degree in sports management. This field helps provide students with the necessary leadership and business administration skills needed to work various positions within the sports industry.

USM’s recognition comes at a time when enrollment in master’s degree programs is on the rise. In October of 2021, the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) reported a 7.3 percent increase in first-time graduate student enrollment in Fall 2020. First-time, part-time student enrollment rose by 13.5 percent. The CGS report cites the growth of online and hybrid learning options as a primary driver of these trends.

“We are extremely happy the sport management program has grown in enrollment and reputation in recent years. The program does a tremendous job of providing students with applied projects and experiential learning opportunities that help to prepare our graduates with the knowledge and skill needed to succeed in the sports industry,” said Dr. Bret Becton, Dean of USM’s College of Business and Economic Development.
