Staff Council
Overview of Staff Council
Staff Council serves as a representative voice for staff members working throughout the University. Today and every day, we will continue to do the work needed to best support and stand by our colleagues and students. We are in this together, and together we will be the change we wish to see in our world, here at USM, in Hattiesburg, along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and well beyond. You matter to us greatly, and we are here for you.
Mission
The University of 51¶ºÄÌ Mississippi 's Staff Council was established in 1989 to serve as a representative voice for staff members working throughout the University from the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, Gulf Park, Stennis and Hattiesburg campuses. The goal of the Staff Council is to ensure that these excellent staff personnel have a venue to voice their views, interests, and concerns regarding their support of and function within The University of 51¶ºÄÌ Mississippi. It is with this voice that staff, faculty, and administration may work together to become a leading force for growth and for excellence in service within the 51¶ºÄÌ Miss community, within our local community, and within the state of Mississippi.
Objectives
- Engage staff, faculty, and administration towards the implementation and enhancement of the goals, purposes, and functions of the university
- Serve all staff by advising executive leadership and administration with data-driven recommendations where appropriate towards the improvement of overall staff welfare
- Facilitate open and honest discussion of issues, policies and activities relating to USM staff without repercussion and with the protection of the Council
- Support excellence in staff service at 51¶ºÄÌ Miss and within the community by recognizing the ongoing achievements of our hard working staff
- Drive the improvement of staff performance and morale by providing a welcoming community that supports continuous staff development and networking opportunities through meaningful Council events and workshops
