Show Up and Write! is hosted virtually on Teams by the Center for Faculty Development (CFD) weekly and provides a quiet open space for dedicated writing time. This writing group aims to support faculty,  staff, and graduate student research by designating time for writing and increasing productivity through peer support and personal accountability.  Join us on Teams and plan to focus time on writing an article, book chapter, grant proposal, blog, grading or another project.  

Show Up and Write! will meet virtually every Thursday this fall from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 pm beginning August 29th, 2024 and will conclude November 21st. These sessions are come-and-go as needed for your schedule and does not include peer exchange. Faculty, staff and graduate students from all disciplines and ranks are welcome to attend.

GRADUATE MENTORSHIP LUNCH AND LEARN WORKSHOPS

12:00-2:00 PM | Peck House | Hattiesburg Campus

These in-person mentoring workshop are designed to help new and continuing faculty sharpen their skills as effective and positive mentors in their work with graduate students. The workshop will be roundtable discussions of case studies of realistic interactions between graduate mentors and students. For new faculty, this workshop will also satisfy the mentorship training requirement to receive graduate faculty status.

Lunch will be provided at the Lunch and Learn Workshops on October 29 & March 18. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided for the Mentorship Training Series.

RISE To The Top! Faculty Appreciation and Awareness Session

The Institute for Disability Studies and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Professional Development would like to celebrate the more than 50 faculty who taught students during the RISETTT! pilot years. Additionally, we would like to spread the word to new faculty about the state of Mississippi’s second Inclusive Post-Secondary Education program for students with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. This session aims to highlight previous participation, increase engagement, and grow the undergraduate RISETTT! Curriculum (course) opportunities. Coffee, tea, and breakfast treats will be served.

Open to all faculty, including affiliates and adjuncts.

University Finances 101 Series

University Finances 101:  Vendor Entry and Intro to Completing Remittance Vouchers

This training will touch on the process to start with Vendor Entry for all payments, then transition into how to effectively complete Employee, Non-Employee Remittance Vouchers, and Moving Vouchers.  We will describe the process, timing, and AP's general workflow to service the needs of all University departments in the most timely and efficient manner.  We will wrap up with a Q&A session.

University Finances 101: Travel Processes and Form Completion 

This training will be our annual training for new and existing staff to cover forms, policies, State law, and all aspects of Business Travel for USM employees, and students.  We will cover the process, timing, and Travel's general workflow to service the needs of all University departments in the most timely and efficient manner.  We will wrap up with a Q&A session.

This training will be our annual training for new and existing staff to cover forms, policies, State law, and all aspects of obtaining and using Pcard/Ecards for USM employees.  We will cover the process, timing, and Travel's general workflow to ensure prompt usage and reconciliation of Pcard/Ecard transactions.  We will wrap up with a Q&A session.

IRB Submissions and Review: Using InfoEd

This presentation, led by USM's Office of Research Integrity (ORI), will be a hands-on guide to USM's IRB software platform: InfoEd.  It will be useful to all human subjects researchers, research advisors, and IRB members.

Challenges and Solutions for Working with the Community

Increasingly, higher education and academic researchers are getting involved in projects with broad societal impacts that require collaboration or communication with the public. This workshop will provide tips for working with and reaching organizations or individuals outside of academia. Participants will discuss important considerations such as communication methods, motivations for participation, identifying mutual benefits, the concept of “do no harm”, and overcoming institutional barriers.
