Dr. Daniel Capper received the 2021 Innovation Award for Multidisciplinary Research by the Office of the Vice President for Research at USM.

Dr. Olivia Clare received the 2021 Innovation Award for Creative Research by the Office of the Vice President for Research at USM.

Corrine Dekkers (PhD candidate in English) named to the USM Graduate School Hall of Fame.

Rachael Fowler (PhD candidate in English) received the 2021 Innovation Award for Graduate Research by the Office of the Vice President for Research at USM.

Dr. Monika Gehlawat received the 2021 Innovation Award for Basic Research by the Office of the Vice President for Research at USM.

Dr. Andrew Haley has been awarded the 2019-2021 Charles W. Moorman Distinguished Professorship.

Hayley Hasik (PhD candidate in History) named to the USM Graduate School Hall of Fame.

Dr. Rebecca Tuuri has been named the 2021 Mississippi Humanities Council Teacher of the Year.

 

College

Dr. Craig Carey, named the 2020 Advisor and Mentor of the Year by the College of Arts and Sciences.

Jaide Hollingsworth received the 2020 Staff Service Award from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Publications

Dr. Angela Ball had a poem included in the Pandemic issue of Conch, edited by Ishmael Reed, in May. She also has poems forthcoming in Bennington Review, The Laurel Review, and Birmingham Poetry Review.

Dr. Bradley Phillis co-edited The Cursed Carolers in Context, published by Routledge & CRC Press.

Dr. Deanne Stephens published her book The Mississippi Gulf Coast Seafood Industry. (University Press of Mississippi)

Dr. Eric Tribunella's A de Grummond Primer: Highlights of the Children's Literature Collection, co-edited with Dr. Carolyn Brown and Dr. Ellen Ruffin, will be published this spring by the University Press of Mississippi.

Dr. Adam Clay published a book of poems called To Make Room for the Sea (Milkweed Editions).

Dr. Michael Dearmey has published a book titled Cosmopolitanism and the Evils of the World (Palgrave Macmillan)

Dr. Monika Gehlawat published a monograph titled In Defense of Dialogue: Reading Habermas and Postwar American Literature (Routledge). 

Dr. Ery Shin has published a book titled Gertrude Stein's Surrealist Years (University of Alabama Press)

Dr. Heather Stur has published a book titled Saigon at War: South Vietnam and the Global Sixties (Cambridge University Press)

Noteworthy

Dr. Christopher Foley has been named the William Winter Scholar, Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration.

Sarah Anne Hogue (History MA student) was recently awarded an American History Education Award from the Mississippi Chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, for her work on colonial American history. 

Dr. Joyce Inman and Dr. Rebecca Powell received a Research Initiative grant from the Conference on College Composition and Communication grant, again for their project titled. “Data and Failure: A Collaborative Study of First-Year Composition.â€

Dr. Paula Smithka was elected President of the Concerned Philosophers for Peace organization.

Dr. Susannah Ural received a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Collections and Reference Resources grant as part of her ongoing Digital Humanities project to digitize the Civil War Governors of Mississippi papers.
