National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at The University of 51矯通 MississippiThe National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at The University of 51矯通 Mississippi recently attended the 71st Biennial Virtual National Leadership Conference and was recognized as the Outstanding Collegiate Chapter of the Year.

The award recognizes the collegiate council whose programs and activities during the reporting period best exemplify the purpose and goals of the NPHC. Council activities were reviewed on the following criteria: Impact on its local area or community through education, politics, health, environment, and/or economic empowerment thrusts; collaboration with other community organizations and/or councils to execute programming; and support of local, regional, and national activities.

The NPHC is one of three student governing bodies in the USM Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Founded in 1930 at Howard University, NPHC is a national coordinating body for the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities, popularly known as The Divine Nine, which had evolved on American college and university campuses. The NPHC office at USM was established in 1993.

Im extremely proud of the council for this accomplishment, said Valencia Walls, interim associate director for Fraternity and Sorority Life at USM and NPHC advisor. This year has been a challenging one for them, but they stayed the course and delivered programs to ensure students remained engaged during the pandemic."
