You may be able to take advantage of a program that allows you to participate in ROTC and enlist in the Army National Guard or Army Reserve at the same time, provided a vacancy exists in either a Guard or Reserve unit. It's called the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP), and it means that while you're still in college, you can be gaining valuable experience and earning extra income. The SMP is a two-year program designed to begin in a student-soldier’s junior year of college.

Enlisted Soldiers

If you're an enlisted Soldier, Army ROTC can help you continue to grow and learn with an array of opportunities. You should start with the Army Green to Gold program, which provides options for Soldiers interested in pursuing a baccalaureate or graduate degree and earning a commission as an Army Officer.

The Army Green to Gold Program provides options for enlisted Soldiers currently on active duty who have an interest in pursuing a baccalaureate or graduate degree and earning a commission as an Army Officer. Explore the several ways for enlisted Soldiers to earn their degrees with the Green to Gold Scholarship Program!

U.S. Army ROTC Simultaneous Membership Program The Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) allows people to be a part of both the Army National Guard and their college’s ROTC program. The immediate benefits are being able to use the tuition assistance of the GI Bill after a year of service in the Guard or Reserves.

Reserve/National Guard

If you are already a member of the Army Reserves or , looking to join, or are a current cadet looking for extra money and military experience, you may be able to take advantage of the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP).

Mississippi National Guard General Scholarship

MSNG General Scholarship allows service members to combine State Education Assistance Program (SEAP) and Federal Tuition Assistance funding (FTA). The funds will be deposited straight into the soldier's account, allowing them to use them as a general scholarship as opposed to merely for tuition.

  • Each soldier qualifies for up to $5,000 annually from SEAP and $4,000 annually from FTA for in-state Senior Colleges.
  • An additional award can be applied for at the Senior Colleges if the soldier does NOT have FTA available. (example Basic Camp Cadets ROTC)
  • Service Members must be in good standing. Benefits can be used simultaneously with CH. 1606 GI Bill benefits.

USM is covering the gap between Federal Tuition Assistance and remaining course tuition for TA-approved hours. Whether fully online or on-campus, Military Students who qualify for Federal Tuition Assistance can have the remainder of their TA-approved hours covered through our TA Gap Funding Program.

Minuteman Scholarships can be either two-year GRFD scholarships or DEDNG-GRFD scholarships that cover up to four years. They guarantee that Cadets who commission as Army officers will serve in the Guard. A Minuteman Scholarship requires a nomination letter as part of the scholarship packet and offers either full tuition and mandatory fees or a room and board flat rate of $10,000 per year, covering up to four years (or eight semesters) of benefits.
